October 2023: 30 Kolbars Suffer Loss and Injury in Kurdistan’s Border Regions

According to the data registered at the Statistics and Documentation Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in October 2023, a total of 30 Kolbars met grim fates or suffered injuries within the border regions of Kurdistan. A staggering 93.2% of these cases resulted from direct fire by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The breakdown of this report is as follows: three Kolbars and traders lost their lives, while 27 Kolbars sustained injuries, with one victim being a teenager under 18 years old.
The highest number of Kolbar casualties were reported in Kermanshah (Kermashan) province, accounting for 19 cases.
Causes of death or injury:
1. Direct shooting: 28 cases (25 fatalities and 3 injuries), representing 93.2% of all incidents.
2. Beating: 1 case (1 injury), accounting for 3.4% of all cases.
3. Mine Explosion: 1 case (1 injury), also comprising 3.4% of all cases.
Victims by province:
1. West Azerbaijan province (Urmia): 1 case (1 injury)
2. Kurdistan Province (Sanandaj): 10 cases (3 fatalities and 7 injuries)
3. Kermanshah province: 10 cases (all injuries)
Firing by the Armed Forces:
1. Border Regiment: 27 cases (27 injuries)
2. IRGC: 2 cases (2 fatalities)
3. One incident was due to a mine explosion.
