Hoshiar Mahmoudi, a 40-year-old Kolbar from Paveh, lost his life due to direct gunfire from Iraqi border guards at the Nowsud border. At least two other Kolbars, including Rzgar Faraji, were seriously injured in the same incident.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Monday, January 22, 2024, the Iraqi Border Guard forces opened fire on a group of Kolbars at the Nowsud border. Hoshiar Mahmoudi was fatally shot in the head within the territory of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Notably, he was carrying no goods at the time.
Two additional Kolbars, one identified as Rzfar Faraji, sustained serious injuries and were promptly transported to medical facilities in Nowsud city.
Yesterday, during the "Berpirsiyar" program on Rudaw TV channel, in which a member of Hengaw was participating, a Kurdish officer from the Iraqi Border Guards revealed concerning directives from Baghdad, stating, "We have received orders to shoot Kolbars aiming from the waist down."
